Neushwanstein Castle, Fussen Germany

This castle was AMAZING!  This is the castle that Walt Disney copied for the Disney Castles!  It was built by King Ludwig in 1869 and it took like 15 years to build.  It is so ornate on the inside, not a spot on any floor, wall, or ceiling that was not decorated or painted.  We took a guided tour of the inside of the castle and it was so over the top decorated but also very interesting to see.  I took this picture from the car before we got up there.  By the time we made it there, the clouds descended and so we couldn't get any more clear pictures of it, but this one turned out amazing, I thought!
We have loved seeing all these sights as a family!  The girls sure are troopers and really have enjoyed seeing all these things too.  It is definitely entertaining to them!

This was the castle right across from Neushwanstein that we saw the night we arrived in Fussen.  Neushwanstein was covered in clouds so we couldn't see it, but this one was beautifully lit at night in the snow!

Love this girl and her smiles!
Mom and Dad riding in the back of the horse drawn carriage up to see Neushwanstein.
Alissa wanted to ride on the front of the carriage up the moutain and it was really fun!  We got to watch the horses poop the entire way up and even Alissa noticed "Mommy, the horses are going potty!"   It was a fun way to ride...it felt very German and very old fashioned too as we headed up to see the inside of a REAL castle!
These goodies were by far the best thing we had our entire trip in Europe.  They were like donut and scones mixed together...I want to learn how to make them!  We spent quite a few Euro's on these yummy quarkballchen!!
After the tour, and the girls are tired!  Just in time to fall asleep on the horse drawn carriage down the mountain!

This is called a MAY pole and they have them all over Germany, especially in the little towns.  It is a good idea that America should do, but you put your business logo on it and point it in the direction of your business.  Great way to see what the town has!

We ate those same things from the stand on our way down the castle! But we also got ice cream because it was so warm. Wow, what a difference 8 months makes. :)

I loved neuschwanstein! I can hardly believe that it has been almost 7 years-- I visited Germany right after you and I left London!
