First E.R. visit and a broken finger!

We are officially parents now that we have taken Alissa to the Emergency Room.  Our parents reminded us that it won't be the last time we ever endure the ER, but at least this incident wasn't too terrible or traumatic!

Alissa is becoming more and more independent.  She does almost everything by herself, like getting out of her car seat and shutting the car door.  She has done it lots of times, but tonight, when she shut her car door, somehow her pointer finger got shut in the door.  I had to open the door to get her finger out :( 

Overall, she was pretty brave and only cried for about 10 minutes.  Her finger immediately swelled up.  At first I just thought it would be a deep tissue bruise, but it looked a bit crooked, so we decided to take her to the ER for an x-ray.  We dropped off Hannah at our friends house, where she had her first sleep over with her buddy Harper who is 2 months older than her.  (Thanks Erin!)  

You would have thought that we were pulling teeth to try and get Alissa to show her finger to the ER doc and to take an x-ray.  She kept saying, "I put my finger under my blanket and it will feel better."  She was not a fan of anything but the PINK pain medication they gave her :)  The only way we could somewhat convince her to show her finger to the doctor was to promise her a PINK milk shake after we left the hospital!

The x-ray showed no dislocation, but she chipped off the bottom of her middle bone in her finger.  The doctor said there is not much they do, other than just let it heal.  And of course we would never be able to keep a splint on her finger, so it will just heal in time.  She doesn't seem to complain about it...she just protects it now and always uses her left hand to do everything instead of her right hand. By the way, we drove immediately to McDonald's after leaving the E.R. at 10 pm to let her drink a Pink milkshake on the way home :)
